Activate! Queensland – A New 10-year Sport and Active Recreation Strategy

State Government (Sport and Recreation) has been a Major Supporter of the Association for many years. In particular, State Government provide funding to support us to coordinate sport pathways from grassroots to elite level including support provided through the Qld Academy of Sport for our High Performance Program. State Government also provide support to Association members through a number of other strategies including Fair Play.

We encourage you to attend briefing sessions for the new State Government Activate! Queensland 2019-2029 strategy, to gain an understanding of what this means for you and your local community.

See below for more information.

For the last twelve months or so, the Queensland Government has worked to engage our communities, industry and leaders in a discussion about the future of sport and active recreation in Queensland.  We reached more than 585,000 Queenslanders across the social media campaign along with over 2380 online submissions, 2021 survey responses and 1142 people attending consultation sessions and deep dive workshops.   Consultation reinforced your success and achievements to date in communities across Queensland, but also a lot about how we could plan for the future too. All of that information has culminated in the development of a 10-year dedicated sport and active recreation strategy, the first of its kind for Queensland.

Activate! Queensland 2019-2029 was launched on Saturday 27 July 2019.  Activate! Queensland is a ten-year strategy aimed at getting more Queenslanders moving, more often. The Queensland Government will, for the first time, unite its efforts and investments under a shared vision for physical activity in the state.

The four key areas of the strategy are aimed at Activating Queenslanders, Activating Environments, Activating Success and Activating Collaboration. Activate! Queensland will see improvements made to programs, spaces and opportunities across the ten-year period, enabling communities to have better visibility on the benefits of living an active and healthy lifestyle.

The public website and information has been launched: www.qld.gov.au/sportrecstrategy

To share the 2029 vision of the strategy, Sport and Recreation are hosting a series of evening briefing sessions throughout Queensland, open to all members of the community.
