CEO John Swete Kelly, Mackay Regional Coordinator Peter Sumpter and local Mackay members are gearing up for the annual Rio Tinto River 2 Reef Ride on Saturday 30 September.
The 2017 ride is expected to attract around 1600 cyclists and will raise funds for Sporting Wheelies and Disabled Association and RACQ CQ Rescue.
The riders have the choice of four distances ranging from 35km to 135km with plenty of rest stations along the way and support from over 20 of our enthusiastic Association volunteers.
Team Sporting Wheelies currently have 8 registered members, using handcycles, tandem bikes and cycles to show just how inclusive cycling is as a recreational activity.
A keen cyclist, Swete Kelly has signed up for the 135km ride.
“I’m looking forward to joining the Mackay Sporting Wheelies community and participating in this wonderful fund raising event, which will help both us and RACQ CQ Rescue,” he said.
“The money raised will enable us to provide life-changing sport and healthy activity programs and services for people with disabilities in the region.”
