Many of Australia’s elite athletes with a disability started their sporting careers as junior competitors in events organised by Sporting Wheelies and Disabled Association, or were ‘talent spotted’ at one of our Come and Try Days.
Our athlete development and talent identification programs include:
- Multi-Sport Expos – give school-aged children with a disability the chance to ‘have a go’ at a range of sports from AFL to wheelchair basketball
- Junior Development Program – a squad-based program that supports promising young athletes with a disability striving to achieve in sport
- Development clinics and programs (see sport-specific pages for details of development initiatives)
Other related programs include:
- Paralympic Talent Search Days–an initiative of the Australian Paralympic Committee (APC), which aims to identify people with a disability who show Paralympic potential
- Queensland Academy of Sport EAD Individual Scholarship Program – an initiative of the Queensland Academy of Sport for elite athletes in Paralympic sports not otherwise covered by a QAS program.
