Exercise-based Rehabilitation Program (NeuroMoves)

Exercise-based Rehabilitation Program (NeuroMoves)

NeuroMoves is an intensive, one-on-one program that aims to assist a person with neurological/musculoskeletal conditions to maximise their functional ability and lead a more independent life. The program can assist people with a range of conditions including spinal cord injury, acquired brain injury, stroke and cerebral palsy.

This exercise-based rehabilitation program is delivered on behalf of Spinal Cord Injuries Australia (SCIA). Our Brisbane fitness and rehabilitation facility, The Gym, is the only NeuroMoves – Walk On site in Queensland.

Each client’s program is individually tailored with the aim of developing skills necessary to achieve functional goals. Sessions can be 1-3 hours in duration and may involve strengthening the core/trunk, upper and lower limbs; whole body coordination; partial or full weight-bearing activities; balance, stability and postural control exercises; and gait training – depending on the client’s needs and goals.

The Gym has a range of inclusive and biomechanically-efficient equipment to provide clients with the best opportunity to improve their functional abilities, such as bodyweight-supported treadmill training and Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) cycling.

Clients regularly report significant functional improvements from their involvement in the program, which has led to a positive impact on their quality of life. Many have found increased independence and general health benefits as a result of their involvement in the program (see stories from clients Reece, Mikaela and Patrick).
