A new Queensland junior record and impressive personal best performances were amongst the highlights at the 2012 State Powerlifting Championships in Brisbane yesterday.
Athletes from around the country competed at Sporting Wheelies and Disabled Association’s gym in front of an appreciative crowd of family, friends and supporters. 
Nineteen-year-old Townsville lifter Greg Moffat claimed a new Queensland junior record in the 90kg category with a lift of 110kg, which was 25kg more than his previous personal best mark.
Other personal best performances by Shannon Bates (125kg, 82.5kg category), Simon Bayne (130kg, 100kg category), David Williams (174kg, 100kg category) and Kenton Erb (155kg, 100+kg category) were the highlights of a tight competition.
There were promising signs from London Paralympic hopeful Abebe Fekadu, who posted an equal PB of 163kg (60kg category) ahead of his departure this week for the final qualifying competition in Dubai.
Fekadu took out the overall trophy for best lifter at the competition, followed by David Williams who also is headed to Dubai.
Leigh Skinner made it a clean sweep for Queensland by taking out third place.Click here for full results.
