Spinning Bullets ready to fire in 2016 NWBL

4/4/16

The RSL Queensland Spinning Bullets state wheelchair basketball team is ready to shoot for gold in the 2016 National Wheelchair Basketball League (NWBL), which kicks off this weekend in Newcastle (8-10 April).

The team will be looking to improve on their fourth place in 2015 with the help of experienced players such as Tige Simmons, Matt McShane and Tom O’Neill-Thorne together with young stars who are ready to step up to the next level.

“Due to the timing of the Rio 2016 Paralympics, this year’s NWBL will run almost every weekend until June,” said the Association’s Sport Development Coordinator (Wheelchair Basketball), Nick Such.

“Whilst this ensures that the competition is played in time, it will also place a big emphasis on the players staying healthy and injury-free.  There’s definitely less time between rounds to clear up bumps and bruises.

“For this reason we’ve extended our squad from the usual 15 players to 20.  Whilst not all players will take the court in 2016, the fact we have such depth places us in the driver’s seat.”

The RSL Queensland Spinning Bullets will host two home rounds in Brisbane and one round in Rockhampton.

The team will start their 2016 campaign on 8 April at 5pm against the Sydney Metro Blues. Live results will be available via http://www.nwblaus.com/.
