Nominations are now open for Sporting Wheelies and Disabled Association’s Annual Awards, which recognise outstanding achievement in sport and healthy activity for Queenslanders with a disability.
Thirteen award categories will honour individuals and organisations for their achievements between 17 October 2016 and 31 December 2017.
Member Services Coordinator Naomi Oliver said the aim of the awards was to recognise “the best of the best” in sport and healthy activity for people with a physical disability or vision impairment across the state.
“The awards recognise up-and-coming and elite Queensland athletes competing in any sport – whether the sport is run by the Association, or by mainstream sporting organisations,” she said.
“There are also categories to celebrate the valued contribution of coaches, officials, volunteers, media and inclusive services.
“Our prestigious Sporting Wheelie of the Year Award, however, is open only to current members of the Association with a physical disability or vision impairment, who have both excelled in their sport and made a significant contribution to the Association through promotion and awareness.
“Some of our award criteria has changed this year for the individual athlete awards, so it is important to read the criteria thoroughly before selecting the relevant category.
“You don’t have to be a member of the Association to nominate someone for an award, so we are encouraging nominations from across the community.”
Nominations close at midnight on Sunday 14 January 2018.
Winners will be announced at the 2017 Annual Awards Presentation Dinner on Friday 23 February 2018 at the Kedron-Wavell Services Club in Brisbane.
